IEEE Region 5 Student Conference Activities Overview

The IEEE Student Branch Officers, IEEE-Eta Kappa Nu Chapter Officers and the University Counselors from the more than 90 Universities with IEEE Student Branches and Eta Kappa Nu Chapters are invited to attend the leadership training secession Saturday Afternoon. 

The 3-5 April 2020, IEEE Region 5 Student Activities Conference will be filled with numerous programs and four (4) student competitions.  The competitions are designed to encourage critical thinking, technical writing, and project management for:

IEEE Region 5 Student Professional Awareness Conference

  • IEEE Region 5 Student Branch Officers
  • IEEE-Eta Kappa Nu Chapter Officers
  • University Counselor Leadership Training

All IEEE, IEEE-Eta Kappa Nu, and Engineering Students are invited to attend the IEEE Region 5 SPAC Friday, April 4, 2020.  The students attending will hear presentations by National and Regional Professionals drawn from the IEEE-USA network of IEEE Volunteers and Industry Leaders.

IEEE Region 5 Job Fair

The sponsors and patrons supporting the IEEE Green Technologies Conference and the IEEE Region 5 Student Activities Conference will be available to meet with students seeking future job opportunities and career path advice.

IEEE Region 5 Student Paper Competition

IEEE Region 5 invites undergraduate students at IEEE Student Branches and Eta Kappa Nu Chapters to submit a paper to one of the 26 Local IEEE Region 5 Student Paper Competitions before 8 January 2020.  Written papers relating to technical, engineering, management, or societal aspects of any subjects relevant to science, engineering and technology are invited.  The top two papers from each of the 26 Local Competitions will be advanced to one of the four IEEE Region 5 Area Competitions by 18 January 2020.  The top three papers in each of the four (IEEE Region 5 Area Competitions will be advanced to the IEEE Region 5 Regional Paper Competition by 12 February 2020.

Only one author of each of the Student Papers selected can compete in the IEEE Region 5 Regional Paper Competition 4 April 2020 that is invited to attend the IEEE Region 5 Regional Paper Competition for the oral presentation, and then answer 5 minutes of questions about the paper.  The IEEE Region 5 Student Registration Fee and Travel Expenses for one author of each of the student papers selected will be reimbursed based on the IEEE Region 5 Travel Guidelines.  Read more >>

IEEE Region 5 Circuit Design

The Universities are invited to send a Two-Student Team to compete in the IEEE Region 5 Circuit Design Competition.  The student team will be challenged to solve a technical problem provided to the teams on the day of competition.  Teams must complete the Intent to Compete Form and register for the IEEE Region 5 Student Conference.  Read more >>

IEEE Region 5 Student Ethics Competition 

The Universities are invited to send a Two-Student Team to compete in the IEEE Region 5 Student Ethics Competition.  The Ethics Competition is hosted by IEEE-Eta Kappa Nu leaders.  The student team will be challenged to consider an ethical situation they might face during their careers.  The details of the situation to be considered are provided to the teams on the morning of competition.  The teams will make a prepared response with recommended actions to the situation.  Teams must complete the Intent to Compete Form and register for the IEEE Region 5 Student Conference.  Read more >>

IEEE Region 5 Student Robotics Competitions

The Universities are invited to send Student Teams to compete in the IEEE Region 5 Robotics Competition.  The student team will be challenged to build autonomous robots within the competition rules and guidelines.  The competition will use a point system with the winning team receiving the highest number of points.  Details may be found in the official competition rules.  Teams must complete the Intent to Compete Form and register for the IEEE Region 5 Student Conference.  Read more >>
