IEEE Region 5 Student Ethics Competition
IEEE Student Branches and IEEE-Eta Kappa Nu chapters at universities throughout IEEE Region 5 are invited to register a Two-Student Team to compete in the IEEE Region 5 Student Ethics Competition. The Ethics Competition is hosted by IEEE-Eta Kappa Nu leaders. The student team will be challenged to consider an ethical situation they might face during their careers. The details of the situation to be considered are provided to the teams on the morning of competition. The teams will make a prepared response with recommended actions to the situation. IEEE Region 5 Student Circuit Design
IEEE Student Branches and IEEE-Eta Kappa Nu chapters at universities throughout IEEE Region 5 are invited to register a Two-Student Team to compete in the IEEE Region 5 Circuit Design Competition. The student team will be challenged to solve a technical problem provided to the teams on the day of competition. IEEE Region 5 Student Robotics Competitions
IEEE Student Branches and IEEE-Eta Kappa Nu chapters at universities throughout IEEE Region 5 are invited to send Student Teams to compete in the IEEE Region 5 Robotics Competition. The student team will be challenged to build autonomous robots within the competition rules and guidelines. The competition will use a point system with the winning team receiving the highest number of points. Details may be found in the official competition rules. IEEE Region 5 Student Poster Competition
IEEE Region 5 invites undergraduate students at IEEE Student Branches and Eta Kappa Nu Chapters to submit a top-ranked poster at their university to their local IEEE Section by Dec 15, 2022, for participation at the area level and region level poster competitions. Posters addressing technical, engineering, management, or societal aspects of any subjects relevant to science, engineering and technology are invited. The top two posters from each R5 area will be selected based on oral presentations and to advance to the R5 region competition by Feb 15, 2023. The competition at the region level will take place at the R5 conference among eight area poster winners (up to two per four areas of R5 plus any selected to fill out the eight slots, if necessary).
Only one author of each of the selected area posters can compete in the IEEE Region 5 Regional Poster Competition April 22, 2023 by making an oral presentation and answering 5 minutes of questions about the poster. Read more for details >>
Award Policy for IEEE Region 5
IEEE Region 5 established the following cash awards for IEEE Region 5 Student Competitions. IEEE Region 5 Competition Student Branches will be awarded in the following manner:

Disbursement of Awards
The Awards will be disbursed upon conclusion of the IEEE Region 5 Student Competitions. Awards for Robotics will be disbursed to the teams’ Student Branches.
Student Poster, Circuit Design and Ethics awards are made by R5 to the individual winners. A W-8 (foreign person) or W-9 (US person) withholding form is required by the IEEE Region 5 Treasurer prior to disbursement. The winners must also provide their current mailing address.
IEEE Region 5 Student Conference Schedule
The 2023 IEEE Region 5 Student Conference will be held concurrently with the 2023 IEEE Region 5 Conference on April 22-23 in Denver, CO. See the individual competition detailed descriptions as linked above for more information on action dates leading up to the student conference.
